The GOG.com Downloader is totally optional and you don't need to use it every time, although we really recommend it if you're downloading games bigger than 1GB or if you're having any problems with your Internet connection. The Downloader will even take care of error correction, so even if your connection is unstable, you should never end up with a corrupt installer.
